What Can We Expect From Rising Sea Levels?

Having been working on an essay about Eocene climate change, I decided to jump forward in history for this week’s post! I have seen lots of content regarding rising sea levels lately, and how many coastal towns have a bleak future ahead with flooding and, in some cases, utter destruction. This tied in with my essay about how rising sea levels can flood landmasses and create new oceanic pathways, or how a fall in sea level can result in land barriers to current flow. Both outcomes hugely affect ocean circulation and hence the climate (e.g. the Drake Passage or Bering strait) which led me to wonder about how current rising sea levels may affect oceanic pathways and what effects might this have on global climate variability in the future? Could there be a threshold of sea levels beyond which our climate cannot recover?
